Ever wondered how women in magazine covers always have such perfect skin? Aside from the photoshop, editing and AI. They also have skin care tricks up their sleeves that they use behind the scenes. Let's walk through them.

Dermaplaning, is a practice used in beauty therapy clinics. Is a non-invasive procedure which involves a sterile, single use (dermaplaning) blade. A brief explanation... (Source quinnbeautyspa.co.nz) A treatment to both exfoliate the skin and remove fine, vellus hairs on the face. The same way that shaving works, it uses a painless blade to gently scrape away facial hair (often referred to as ‘peach fuzz’) and rids the skin of any build-up of dead skin cells, all of which can contribute to making your skin look dull or uneven. Just like exfoliation, it removes any barriers which would stop your skincare from penetrating – meaning your products often work much more effectively after a treatment. Dermaplaning results in a healthier and more hydrated complexion. My take on it... I found dermaplaning to be wonderful. Skin looks smoother, especially when applying makeup! The skin is definitely brighter and more even looking. The first time I noticed someone had this done, their foundation looked stunning and had to ask what they did!
Exfoliating, much like dermaplaning this helps with skin texture. However, with this, we aren't removing any hair. Exfoliating can be done once or twice a week. Be careful not to over exfoliate as this will cause irritation, dryness and dehydration. Choose your exfoliant: - Enzyme: This type of exfoliation is best for those with sensitive skin, they "eat" (or dissolve) keratinized cells, which are the completely dead surface skin flakes. - Chemical: Chemical exfoliation is more effective at removing dead skin cells gently (AHA, BHA, PHA) These acids exfoliate by breaking down the bonds that hold your damaged skin cells together, which in a result the product removes. - Physical: consists of small granules that manually scrub away dead skin cells and leave your skin feeling smooth. - I'd recommend this for extremely dry skin, apparent dry skin flakes, not sensitive skin! As this is strongest type of non-invasive exfoliation. More suitable for the body, think coffee scrubs.
Consistent routine. Consistency is key! Pretty obvious, right? Think about it, going to the gym - you need to be consistent; eating healthy - has to be consistent; sleeping - guess what, consistent! To be effective and make a difference! You'll find in my previous blog posts skincare tips and routines. However, if you are wanting some simple advice. My take on a simple skincare routine: Moisturise morning and night, use SPF 50+ during the day and re-apply, when possible, use balm cleansers (my personal favourite) followed by a gel or foam, and of course a lovely lip balm or gloss to keep your lips nicely hydrated.
Skin perfecting acids, my favourites: - Glycolic Acid: Glycolic acid works to exfoliate the skin, speed up cell turnover, and boost collagen production. Glycolic acid helps to clear pores, smooth fine wrinkles, improve skin tone, fade dark patches and sun damage, and hydrate skin for a more youthful appearance. - Salicylic Acid: Works by penetrating the hair follicle and oil gland and dissolving the acne-causing blockages of dead skin cells, oil and other debris. Contains high antibacterial properties and is a natural substance.
And of course we could list all of the Botox, Filler, Chemical Peels, etcetera.
Enhancing your makeup can be obtained with a good skincare range, healthy lifestyle and treating yourself to a massage and facial now and again. Top it off with some gorgeous professional makeup and have yourself a photoshoot to look like the womans new face of Vogue magazine why not?
